Dr. Mariia Tanasyshyn, ND, is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Ontario with a rare and valuable dual background. Before completing her naturopathic medical training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. Mariia earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Ukraine, where she trained extensively in internal medicine. Now fully licensed as a naturopathic doctor (ND) under the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO), she offers evidence-informed, patient-centered care that blends the strengths of both medical and naturopathic approaches. Her visits are not covered by OHIP, but may be reimbursed through extended health insurance like other naturopathic services.
Dr. Mariia is passionate about helping patients feel heard, informed, and empowered. She prioritizes clear communication, shared decision-making, and creating personalized treatment plans that meet her patients where they are.

You've never been to a naturopath before? Here's what to expect.
At Sequence Wellness we are health investigators with a strong foundation in science and medicine. Most of us were headed down the path towards practicing as medical doctors, but by becoming naturopathic doctors, we could work outside of the publicly funded health care system and have flexibility in offering more in-depth care to our patients.
Dr. Mariia went one step further and is fully trained as a medical doctor (Ukraine), but transitioned to naturopathic medicine once coming to Canada. She applies the same clinically experienced lens that she would as an MD, but folds in a holistic view of health and naturopathic treatment options.
The first visit is an extensive review of your case and thorough intake of your history, presenting symptoms, and goals. This can take up to 1 hour, and the cost ($295) is almost always covered by extended health care insurance. At the end of that initial appointment you will have a summarized view of your case, the plan going forward, likely a requisition for lab testing, and a basic treatment plan to get the ball rolling. Once the lab results are in, you see Dr. Mariia for your second appointment (30 minutes, and costing $125), where she reviews those results, and then formulates a more extensive treatment plan based on the testing. Your third appointment will happen about 4-6 weeks from there (again 30 minutes, and costing $125), and you are transitioned from an acute care plan to a maintenance strategy.
Your Doctor: Meet Dr. Mariia
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Mariia is guided by a deep curiosity about lifelong learning and the ways culture, daily habits, and personal rituals shape our well-being. She loves noticing how small routines—like a morning walk or a shared conversation—can shift how we feel. She’s also inspired by the way people create meaning through their daily lives, and how those moments influence overall health.
Nature is one of her favorite places to recharge. You’ll often find her hiking, walking along the water, or tending to her ever-growing collection of houseplants. One of her proudest plant-moments was growing an avocado tree from a single seed—an experience that reflects her clinical philosophy: when you understand the root of something and give it the right conditions, meaningful growth becomes possible.

FAQ
Is Dr. Mariia an MD in Canada?
No. Dr. Mariia was trained as a medical doctor in Ukraine, but then immigrated to Canada where she then trained as a naturopathic doctor. She is a board certified naturopathic doctor licensed in Ontario.
Are her appointments covered by OHIP?
No. Dr. Mariia, though trained as an MD, practices under a ND license in Ontario. Therefore, her services are not covered by OHIP. However, most employers provide extended health care plans that cover naturopathic visits (usually $500 per year, which equates to the first 3 appointments, which is usually plenty of face-to-face time with Dr. Mariia to resolve a patient’s initial concern). Our clinic direct bills most insurance plans, so patients pay very little out of pocket.
Do you accept health insurance?
Absolutely! We offer convenient direct billing for most insurance plans. To confirm if your provider is commonly accepted through our direct billing system, we recommend checking with them in advance. You can also reach out to us at admin@sequencewellness.com and we’ll gladly assist you with any inquiries.
Most insurance providers offer annual coverage of up to $500 annually for naturopathic visits, including lab tests. This approximately covers your first three visits with us. Reach out with any questions, we’re here to make the process as smooth as possible for you!
Do you offer in-person appointments?
Sequence Wellness is a 100% virtual clinic. All appointments are securely conducted via online video chat. This approach enables us to extend our care across Ontario, making it easier for our patients to access healthcare without disrupting their daily routines.
Our diagnostic methods rely primarily on laboratory testing, such as blood, urine, stool, and breath tests, all of which can be conveniently conducted at established facilities in your local area (like Dynacare and Lifelabs), and sometimes even from the comfort of your own home!
