How I Became a Naturopathic Doctor

From nuture to medicine, and back.

My personal history of health care is founded in community-based care, nuturing those around you, getting the training needed for affective clinical assessment, and bringing that back to those in need.

My Story

I have wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can remember. That calling has never wavered — it has simply evolved.

One of my earliest memories is visiting my great-grandmother in a remote village in Ukraine. Although she was not a licensed physician, community members frequently sought her guidance. She listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions, and examined people with intention and care. When someone came to her with abdominal pain, she knew what to look for and when to be concerned. I didn’t understand it at the time, but she was using clinical reasoning to rule out serious illness.

What left the greatest impression on me was not just her knowledge but her generosity. She was guided by the belief that if you have the ability to help others, you have a responsibility to do so. From her, I learned the importance of caring for people as whole individuals — not just a collection of symptoms.
My medical training and practice abroad instilled discipline, resilience, and a strong clinical foundation.

At the same time, I began to notice gaps in conventional care — particularly for people living with chronic, complex, or preventative health concerns. Too often, patients felt rushed, unheard, or reassured that everything was “normal” despite continuing to feel unwell.

Immigrating to Canada further shaped how I practice today. Learning a new language, navigating a new healthcare system, and adapting to a new culture deepened my understanding of what it means to truly listen.

Over time, I found that naturopathic medicine aligned most closely with my values and approach to care. It allows me to spend meaningful time with patients, investigate root causes, and focus on prevention, lifestyle, and long-term health — not just symptom management.

Today, as a licensed Naturopathic Doctor, I support patients who are seeking thoughtful, individualized care and a deeper understanding of their health. My approach is science-informed, collaborative, and grounded in compassion.

At the heart of my practice is the lesson my great-grandmother taught me many years ago: when you have knowledge and the ability to help, you use it — with humility, care, and respect.
