Metals in Chocolate | Impacts on Health
A recent Consumer Report was released that tested various brands of chocolates for cadmium and lead content. It’s a great reminder of why we should always be researching our food sources, and relying on trusted producers and information sources when we make decisions about what goes into our bodies.
So what does it mean? Do we have to give up chocolate? Maybe not. Eating small amount of the healthiest chocolate option seems very reasonable to me. Relying on trustworthy companies like Camino to help improve farming practices to make healthier chocolate, while concurrently supporting the farmers is likely the most sustainable option. Camino does a great job of clarifying cadmium and lead sources in chocolate, and measures that can be taken to reduce it in the final product.
