The Castor Plant

The castor plant (Ricinus communis) is a perennial that is native to Eastern Africa. Castor oil can be made from extracting the oil from the seeds of the plant. Castor oil has been used for thousands of years industrially, medicinally and pharmaceutically. In Egypt, castor oil was used as fuel for lamps, a remedy for ailments and even to stimulate labor in pregnant patients. Today, castor oil is very popular and is used for a variety of purposes from natural laxatives to beauty products.

Castor oil abdominal massage is amazing for helping to:

a) Decongest the abdomen and liver

b) Reduce adhesions in the abdomen

c) Lubricate the intestines and liver, supporting movement and drainage

d) Support lymphatic movement and therefore transport of hormones, toxins and immune molecules within the lymphatic vessels

e) To force a pause in your day, and create the opportunity for 30 minutes of chill and self-care.

Instructions for castor oil abdominal massage:
  • Massage castor oil from ribs to pubic bone in a clockwise direction
  • Add a weighted heating pad – oil has a small enough molecular weight to penetrate the skin but required heat and force
  • Relax for 30 minutes
  • Do this 3x per week
  • NOTE!! Do not do castor oil abdominal massage during your menstrual flow as it can increase drainage and increase blood loss
